Be Rich AND Happy, and one LoA Misconception

One of the blogs I like to read is the Get Rich Slowly blog. They offer practical wealth-building advice, and the information is usually top-notch. However, 2 recent posts have sort-of "irked" me.

Very quickly, the first one is titled "Which is More Important: Money or Job Satisfaction?". It's my belief that we shouldn't be prioritizing these things, because once we do, we'll always view the 2nd choice as inferior, and consequently attract less of it. Money and Job Satisfaction are of equal importance, and both should be given the highest priority. The comment I posted on the site says it's not a "zero-sum game". There's enough of both to go around, so why settle for less?

Second, and sort of related, is the post "There is No Secret: The Myth of the Law of Attraction". I've actually been struggling with a post I'm working on about the misconceptions behind the LoA. I'm struggling because the entire subject is focused on the negative perceptions, and therefore becomes antithetical to the practice of positive attraction. I really don't want to shift focus to the negativity... but there's still a part of me that wants to "set the record straight", if you will. Consequently, that particular post has been sitting in my "drafts" folder for 3 weeks.

About this particular post, though, he actually sums up his own misconception fairly well:

Wealth requires more than just thought — it requires action.
Exactly. So many people have the misconception that the Law of Attraction stops at "thinking", but that's only the first step. If you're familiar with any NLP theories, you'll know that there is a common thread in that most of them involve a three-step process. In The Secret it's "Ask, Believe, Receive"... but the same idea can be presented as "Think, Feel, Act". All you have to do is look at Rhonda Byrne as the prototype: She didn't just stop at thinking about making The Secret, she opened herself up to receive help and backing, and then went out and made it.

Focus on... The Secret DVD Blog

It seems that just about everyday since I started Attraction Hacker, I find a new blog or website dedicated to the Law of Attraction or similar ideas. In fact, after reading Today is the Day on Saturday, I clicked his link to Contemplate This' list of LoA blogs... and found a bunch more. The thing is, I have even more LoA sites bookmarked that aren't even listed there. What is interesting (to me, at least) is that there are some that I just recently found, who have been blogging for months or even longer.

To that end, I'm going to highlight a particular blog/site every Monday that fits into the realm of Attraction Hacker: utilizing technology to help with the Law of Attraction. And today's blog is "The Secret DVD Blog".

They aren't affiliated with the official The Secret blog, which hasn't been updated for almost 3 months, and while the title is "The Secret DVD", they cover a whole lot more than just The Secret. The thing that got me hooked is the great videos that are posted.

From looking over the archives, it seems like the Oprah TV show with The Secret guests was one of the first videos linked to... then after that, there are The Secret-focused videos from Larry King, Ellen, and many more.

Recently, there have been some really interesting videos put up that are thought-provoking and aren't about The Secret. One, is the full movie The Naked Truth, about the origins of modern religion. It goes through the history of how certain religious beliefs came into being, and I think learning about things like that is a great way to fully understand and appreciate your personal beliefs.

Another great video is from Neale Donald Walsch. While I wasn't a huge fan of the Conversations with God movie, I NEVER get tired of hearing Walsch speak. In fact, his audio books are a permanent fixture in my car. Below is the clip:

Esther Hicks on Oprah's XM Radio show.

Esther Hicks was one of the biggest inspirations behind the making of The Secret. Unfortuantely, she's not included in the most recent DVDs because of a disagreement over it's marketing, but she's been teaching the Law of Attraction for over 20 years, and she (and Abraham) are basically THE experts on it.

She'll be on three separate shows, and these are the times:

Show Times (Eastern Time):

Thursday, March 29th - 4am, 10am, 4pm and 10pm
Thursday April 5th - 4am, 10am, 4pm, and 10pm
Thursday April 12th - 4am, 10am, 4pm, and 10pm

You can sign up for a free 3-day trial of XM, to listen to today's show. Or you can download an Mp3 of the show here.

Law of Attraction podcast roundup

When I first started getting into the Law of Attraction and the philosophies behind it, one of the first things I did was search for podcasts about it on iTunes. It was a bit more difficult than I thought it would be. I was surprised to find precisely TWO podcasts dealing with the Law of Attraction, though there are plenty on meditation and yoga and the like. In fact, even now, those two are the only ones regularly updated.

Law of Attraction Tips hosted by Karen Luniw

This podcast was started in December 2006, and looks to be updated monthly. This has been the #1 iTunes podcast in the Health/Self-Help section for a while and rightfully so. Her last few shows have been wonderful and full of great information and encouragement. The show lengths are around 15 to 20 minutes, which for me is perfect, since I listen in my car during my commute.

She's currently going through the "5 Steps of Attracting What you Want", with the March 4th show being about Step 2, Knowing What you Do Want. That show has a few audio glitches, at least for me, but is still a good listen. Her delivery is comfortable and conversational, and she's very open to answering questions. I highly recommend this podcast.

Law of Attraction hosted by Antonio Thorton

This is the second Attraction podcast I found, and he's been doing it since November 2006. There's one word that I can use to describe this podcast: Passion. Thorton is a great personality, and obviously loves what he's doing. He's funny, insightful, and really entertaining. Most of the subjects he talks about come from a personal perspective, and offer some unique wisdom.

He updates about once a week, and they run around 10 minutes in length. I usually take a few minutes before I start working and listen to him, and find it to be a great start to my day. Some of his podcast titles "Big Ole But", "Your Life Sucks... Admit It!", and "MC Hammer Knew The Secret" (one of my favorites). Subscribe to this one today.

There are a few others that are somewhat about the LoA, but aren't regularly updated:

How to Manifest with Mindpower
Described as "an interview by Barry Goss of ManifestLife.com with Jorj Elprehzleinn". It's really just a 9 part series, all posted on the same day, about manifesting things into your life. It got a bit long for me, but it has good info.

Master Key System podcast

Described as exploring "all aspects of Charles F. Haanel’s The Master Key System as well as all other facets of success, health, and attaining what you want out of life." It's not updated very much, and his March 2nd show is an hour and a half all about "blasting" The Secret. Interestingly, they criticize The Secret for taking people's comments out of context, yet proceed to criticize certain aspects of the movie out of context. Notably, the false idea that The Secret says all you need to do is "wish for something to happen" and it will happen. And while it does talk about that in the "Ask" section, they conveniently forget about the "Receive" section that talks about inspired/right action.

A very recent podcast/internet show is Evolving Times - LoA Live hosted by Edward Mills.

The first show had a few technical difficulties, and the host cuts out completely after about 15 minutes. But it looks/sounds very promising. Mills seems very informed and passionate about the subject, and once they get the glitches ironed out, I'm sure it will be great.

Finally, I want to mention my own podcast...The Science of Getting Rich audiobook broadcast.

I found a copy of a cassette tape version of the audiobook, ran it through some audio editing software to clean it up, and split up the chapters. The publishers, Wisdom Traditions, say on the cassette that you may freely distribute it as long as it isn't for profit - so I'm going to post a chapter every Tuesday and Friday for the next nine weeks.

Automatic intention reminders

If you're anything like me, you have moments or days where it just seems too difficult to keep up the law of attraction work. Of course, by those thoughts, you're just CREATING more difficulty... but sometimes, you may just need a little "pick-me-up". That's where Email Scheduler comes in.

The design and interface of the site might be a little confusing at first, but the functionality is great. You input the email address you want to send to, enter the time and date you want it sent, and submit. When the time comes, the email is sent out without you having to do any more.

On days that I'm resonating particularly well with the law of attraction, I'll set up 10 or 15 emails to myself with sayings and thoughts that are encouraging. That way, I get an email everyday with positive energy, and if I'm not in a good place -- it helps bring me back to positivity.

As far as what to put in the email... it could be anything, as long as it's positive. My message today was a simple "You are unique and special." The Secret movie and book have also given me a wealth of encouraging sayings.

There are other automatic emailer, like SendTools... but it requires Thunderbird, and your computer has to be running for it to work. If you've run across any other auto-emailers, please post them in the comments.

Free videos about The Secret and the Law of Attraction

Many of the interviewees in The Secret will be on Larry King tonight, and while cable TV isn't TOTALLY free, it's pretty close. King's guests will be James Ray, Bob Proctor, John Assaraf, Dr. Joe Vitale, and Lisa Nichols... and will apparently be about the criticisms of The Secret.

If you don't have cable, don't worry. If the past is any indication, there will be plenty of copies floating around online after it airs. I'll make sure to post links to them here. Also, if you missed the past Larry King segments about The Secret, James Ray has them here.
